The Cal Capdevila independent rural apartments are in Pira, a village just 7 km from Montblanc, capital of La Conca de Barberà, a county of enormous natural beauty with fields, woods, vineyards, olive and almond trees and the Prades mountains just waiting to be discovered.

Pira is a village of some 400 inhabitants in Conca de Barberà county. It lies near the centre of the county, on the right bank of the River Anguera, which forms much of its eastern limits.
The old village boasts a picturesque site, situated as it is on a high promontory (384 metres) overlooking the “Torrentill” stream and the natural gorge of the River Anguera. The first houses were built on these heights, clustering around the castle, in the early-11th century.

Interesting sights in Pira:

Modernist (art nouveau) winery : Pira’s agricultural cooperative was founded in 1917, and the wine section commissioned the architect Cèsar Martinell i Brunet, a follower of Antoni Gaudí, to build the winery. The two-storey building is a fine example of Catalan modernista-noucentista agrarian architecture.

Carles Andreu Cava winery : just 100 metres from the house, a unique opportunity to visit this winery, learn how cava is made and try the different types produced here. The winery also sells its products directly to visitors.

Sports centre : with swimming pool, football pitch and multi-sports court.

Parks : there are two well signposted areas to enjoy the river and the wood, the River Anguera Park and the Font del Pi Park respectively. Others include the Miralpeix and Passeig parks.

Ollers Fountain : a walk along the path from Santinyà to the old Ollers fountain enables visitors to enjoy views of the River Anguera Gorge.

Paths : the area boasts numerous paths and tracks enabling visitors to enjoy walks with different levels of difficulty.

Conca de Barberà country

La Conca de Barberà is one of the best-defined of all Catalan counties geographically, and one of the oldest. Few people have as yet discovered the beauty of this area, but those who do soon understand why it is often known as the Catalan Tuscany.

The capital or county town is Montblanc, a town with many attractions for tourists, as it conserves its remarkable medieval air. Montblanc is also a very active township, offering a huge range of activities centring on art, gastronomy and leisure.

The natural wealth of La Conca de Barberà and its beautiful scenery make this a very attractive county. Three zones have been catalogued as of natural interest by the Autonomous Government of Catalonia: the Prades mountains, the shady banks of the River Corb and Saburella.

The county boasts important historic, cultural and artistic heritage, with well-conserved traditions, fascinating folklore, museums, cuisine and crafts, all in an artistic and monumental setting of incalculable value.

The best-known local craft is alabaster work, seen at its most extraordinary in the altarpiece in Santa Maria de Poblet. The main centre for this work is Sarral, which exports pieces all over the world.
